starts up fine then wont start
okay i guess ill start form the beginning i had a 1990 v6 and i swapped the motor for an 88 L98 tpi motor w/ an 84 auto tranny. now the way that my car starts is a weird way. i have 2 toggle switches in my car. one for the fuel pump and one for the fuel pump relay. this allows the car to start without it it wont get fuel. okay if i go out to start up my car usually it will start on the first try no problem, but if i shut it off and go to start it again i cant get it to fire up. it will crank and crank then it sounds like the battery is dieing. i got a new battery and a new starter in the car. if i go to jump start the car it will just crank longer. i know the fuel is working due to the switch but i dont know if its sparking. im using a used dizzy with a new coil and a new MSD 6A box. now what is odd is if i go to jump start the car and i let it crank and crank at some point i will hear the exhaust popping out of the headers ( i dont have an exhaust yet just a set of hooker shorties ). this is a very weird situation and i dont know what to do. should i replace the dizzy or what??? im lost and i need this car to work. any advice will help

Try spraying some starting fluid in the intake and see if it will start. If it does, then you're either losing fuel pressure or the injectors aren't firing.

Re: starts up fine then wont start
actually i took my battery to advance auto today and they told me the battery was very dead, so they charged it and i haven't had a chance to put it back in the car. i know the wiring is diffrent between the 88 MAF and the 90 SD. could that be an issue. i de-pinned the bulkhead for the charging system so it would work with my 90 bulkhead on the firewall ( not sure if thats what im supposed to do or not ). im running a new fuel pump that i replaced for my V6 a few months back cause it crapped out on me. could that be a problem i never changed that to a V8 one. ( not even sure if there is a diffrence ) also could not having an adjustable fuel pressure regulator be a problem. my motor is 40 over with an LT4 hot cam and i think my ECU is from a 305 not a 350.
