Block Number

I bought a already swapped out 87 Camaro (V6 to 350) but due to the crap work and half-a**ed performance "work", I wanted to ID all the parts in the car. Now here is my dilemma, has anyone ever heard/seen a block casting number inverted (upside down) to the GM letters? I cannot figure out which way to look because if I look at it from the GM aspect the numbers are not legible but when looked from the opposite view, I see that the numbers read 14010201. If those numbers are correct I have a 305cid. Now why would someone put a 750cfm carb, cowl hood and new intake manifold on a block with stock 305 heads on an apparently 305cid and tell me it is a 350? Any help would be great, if you would like to see pics of the casting number just let me know.

Re: Block Number

post the pic on here, you probably got a 305 because whoever they got the motor from told them it was a 350 or they just out right lied to you....Now as for the 750 didnt u know that makes horse power the standard formula for horsepower is Big Carb+Big Cam x Stock Stall+ stock heads and engine=450 rwhp.....but in all seriousness not everyone thinks to check block numbers, and most dont know crap about how to make hp...so post the numbers so we can give u a second opinion and then start looking for a 350 if u want one... o yeah welcome to TGO

Re: Block Number

Well I'm going to be keeping my car a street so I don't think a nasty cam will be necessary. But this really agrivates me, I bought it for the 350 to make a nice street car but the 305 isn't worth breaking into...I looked @ the numbers inverted to you will probably have to DL them and rotate them so get what I see.

Re: Block Number

Yeah, Edelbrock 750 w/performer intake. Gonna sell it and swap it out, man this really aggravates me. I'm just gonna make the guy's face look like a grapefruit thats been run over by a tractor trailor. Dumb*** kid.

After that I'm gonna come home and order some audio equip, new carb and finish what I was gonna do.

Re: Block Number

Contact the seller and tell him you checked the numbers and you "think" the engine he sold you was "maybe" from a 1970 Corvette and you read (somewhere on the internet) people were giving "X" amount of dollars for those engines.

Tell him it has too much power for you to handle and you are afraid of all that power.

And since it is so valuable and you are such a good guy and want to be fair, you will let him buy it back from you for "X" amount of dollars.

Seriously, though, sounds like small claims court time. Don't get physical. Could cost you more than its worth.
