What do you mean by the flexplate not level with the torque converter? Up and down, front to back, side to side?

I'm pretty thoroughly confused. The flexplate doesn't fit inside the bellhousing on the bottom. https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/vbga...-image-208.jpg

Re: motor install prob
take out the motor mount bolts if you have them in. put a floor jack under the tranny, place a small 2 by 4 between the jack and tranny so it doesnt bend your pan.raise the engine a little, make sure the front is higher than the rear. jack up your tranny a little bit. look up at the torque convertor and make sure the allignment rod on the converter goes inside of the allignment hole you may have to tuggle with it a little bit, but it will go.put some bolts in while the jack is under the tranny. i'm assuming this car is a automatic!

Yes, Ultimately what your trying to do is match the angle of the motor to the angle of the tranny. Your converter not spinning tells me your alignment is off. It may take a bit of pushing, adjusting, jacking and adjusting...Just be patient...and as tempted as you may be at threading the bolts thru the bell housing into the block to suck it together...Dont do it. You may bust the tranny housing.

Re: motor install prob
It not necessary to have any special tools to get your engine lined up with the trans but these come in very handy if you do enough engine installations to justify spending the money. I love mine, it makes it so much easier to get everything lined up.

Re: motor install prob
This may be a silly question, but I assume your trying to bolt probably a turbo 350, 700r4, 4l60e or a 400 up to a small block chevy right?
Have you bolted your converter to your flexplate? If you have, I would unbolt it and slide it onto the input shaft of the transmmission first then bolt it to your flexplate once it's all together.
Did this combo bolt up prior to this, or is this a whole new setup?
Another thing to look for if this is not a prior mated setup would be to check the diameter of your dowel pins on the block compared to the alignment holes on your tranny. There could be an issue there but it's not very likely.
I would keep everything as loose and free as possible as another member pointed out. No motor mount bolts, no tranny mount bolts, driveshaft out, and be sure that nothing is messing with your angles as you try and shoe horn it in like a rubbing fan against a shroud or a distributor hitting the firewall. Look for things like this also. Hope this helps.
