1.6 rockers on 305

hi all.
question..

this motor i have has a mistery cam in it.

the only thing i was told is that it came out of a supercharged 350 that ran 12s in a malibu.
i know i know. its not much but its all i got right now..

stock heads. stock rockers.

i want to get a little more power out of this engine. before i go rebuilding a 350.

would i run into any issues if i drop the 1.6 rockers on there.

the cam is not rediculous.
has slight lopey idle to it. its not crazy

The lift is the bigger issue. Stock heads can only handle about .480" lift, and the 1.6:1 rockers may put you over what the heads can handle.

This is very rue because the .1 increase in the roller rckers increases your lift and that cam might be maxed on with those heads. If you upgrade heads you can throw 1.6 rrs on their and even a bigger cam!
Vortec head/intake combos are becoming the best cheapest thin for a sbc these days, tho I like my 69 double hump heads.

Re: 1.6 rockers on 305

The pushrod slot in the head must be elongated toward the rocker arm stud to accomodate 1.6 rockers.
The amount of power gained is not worth the cost.
Much more effective to just replace the cam with the right one.
The enigine is much more responsive to cam duration and overlap changes
(valve event timing) than changes in valve lift.
If you cam has a lope at idle now, you likely don;t have enough compression ratio or rear gearing to get the most out of the cam you have.
Any cam in a 305 that has enough duration to lope at idle requires a lot of rear gear
converter stall speed, and higher than stock compresssion.
Changing just the rocker ratio will have a very minor effect. Save your money.

you really have to pay attention to it lol.
its not like everyone can hear it.

i guess to an untrained ear it sounds stock..
