over charging!!
this morning on my way to work my bat gauge was showing 18volts i pull over to check it out and it dropped down to normal. on the way home it did the same thing except it stayed at 18? any ideas?

Sounds like the voltage regulator is bad or going bad. If the alternator is only a couple of weeks old then take it back to where you bought it from or take it to autozone and have them test it.

also, the stock gauge could be going a little wacky... I would double check with a multimeter.
My s10's gauge would always be at 18 and sometimes drop to normal, but the alternator voltage was fine.

the post on the back of the alt. reads 30 volts with a multimeter but the batt is only reading like 12 volts.
