sometimes when my car is idleing it makes a weird rattle like sounding noise.. if i step on the gas a little bit when it happens it gos away . my dad said that the same thing happened with my moms firebird and that it was the air pump.. which im geussing he meant smog pump. is he right or it something else?

 

My car made a similar noise at idle it turned out on mine it was the the belt tensioner, the bearing in it was shot and the pulley was rattling

easy way to tell is to put a screwdriver on the tensioner arm with the engine running and put your ear up to the other end of the screwdriver, you will know when you find the source of the noise

I had a PCV valve that did that once.

 

its too loud to be the pcv plus i replaced it already and it did it before and after the replacement.
