my serpentine belt flew off

HEy guys last night i was runnin a friend tryin to get a feel for my new motor. somewhat down the road my serpentine belt flew off completely. It didnt shred one bit, however heated my car badly to about 260.

I believe it was a heat flash since the car cooled down very quickly. there were and are no bubblesi n the oil and all seems fine.

what im getting too is i dont want this happening going halfway down the track. I bought a brand new gatortrack(spelling) belt and i was wondering if there is such a thing as i high tension pulley tensioner

Re: my serpentine belt flew off

My bet is that your tensioner was bad or belt was too long. You'd know if it was bad if it doesn't take a lot of force to deflect it enough to install the new belt. You shouldn't need a stronger tensioner.

Re: my serpentine belt flew off

new tensioner. if its original its worth it anyway. or if your dumping a new engine just don't race it till after. $100 for tensioner? didn't search too hard.
