make an engine squeak and knock, but not a constant knock. sounds like squeak squeak knock squeak knock knock squeak squeak squeak knock. its coming from the front of the engine. and it only knocks at random intervals but the squeak is constant and loud. im thinking a bearing went bad but were. ive observed that the coolant is flowing possibly a waterpump. but would that knock? i dunno do you all know?

thats what i was thinking. i guess its a good thing im havin that 350 built then huh. guy said he had a set of heads he could build for me for about 500 or 550. total. so that would bring my total cost to just over 2000 for the engine. maybe i can offset that a bit and sell him the old one hmmm. i'll have to ask him that one. it should be ok with a rebuild. also im thinking now that what if the bearing on the impeller in the water pump went bad and the impeller was loose that could cause it to wobble and hit the sides causing a sparatic knock. hmmm. i suppose i could take the belt off and spin the water pump to listen and feel. would be a new one on me. but i suppose its not impossible?

Take your accessory belt off and start it to see if anything changes. I just had a 89 GTA with the same noises you are describing. Took the belt off and no change. Disconnected the TC and started it and no change. Added a quart or so more oil no change thought it might be the oil pump pickup fell off but no luck. Pulled the engine and tore the engine down and found a connecting rod bearing spun and wasted the crank.
