Battery/Charging questions
First let me say that ive stared at wiring diagrams for a while and i cant make sense out of them.
My question is relativley simple, i just need to know if the two power distribution wires coming from the C100 connector go to the starter, or to the + battery terminal. Keep in mind i want to know how the FACTORY did it on a 91 z28. I know the RS is different cause i have one, and it didnt help me out at all
.
My second question is, out of the big black and small red wires on the + battery cable; i know big black goes to starter, can i just put the small red wire directly on the alternator post to acomplish the charging? It is an LT1 if that makes any difference.
Thanks for any help.

The small red wire is the voltage sense wire for the alternator. As the accessories are turned on, there is a voltage drop from the alternator stud to the wiring on the car. The sense wire reports back the drop in voltage and the alternator increases the voltage to keep the voltage going to the loads constant. If you put the small red wire on the alternator stud, the headlights will dim considerably when the cooling fans and/or the A/C fan motor is turned on high, as the alternator won't increase the voltage to compensate for the increased load. When the headlights dim, charging of the battery also stops.
The small red wire should be connected wherever the output (big) wire is connected to B+.

Re: Battery/Charging questions
Ok, so let me get this straight.
You say i have to have a small red wire to the battery and a larger wire to the starter, or one of the other places you named.
On my new harness for my LT1, i have 2 wires going to the alternator. a small one that is in the plug, and then one from the stud to wherever. I was under the impression i could just put the smaller wire from the + cable to that post as i said earlier. My 91 had 3 wires, if i remember correctly. A brown wire, a bigger (12-10ga) wire with an eyelet on the end of it, and another wire( cant remember its size) that went on the stud. So does that mean my LT1 doesnt have this "sense wire" that you are talking about? There are only 2 wires.
Please help im completley confused now.
And as for my original question, Where do those 2 red power distribution wires go? Starter solenoid, or + terminal?

Re: Battery/Charging questions
I was talking about the 3rd gen alternator.
If the LT-1 Alternator only has 2 wires, one is the output (big) and the other one either turns it on and/or provides voltage feedback to it.
The wire on the plug wouldn't be there if it didn't need to go somewhere; ie: it would be already connected internally to the stud on the alternator.
We need someone with a LT-1 schematic to weigh in on this one.

Re: Battery/Charging questions
I was told by the person that made my harness (speartech) that i need to run a wire from the post on the alternator, to either the starter or the battery. So i guess i will try my original idea and see how it works.
But as for the other wires....

Re: Battery/Charging questions
I would think that if an LT-1 has an alternator light, that would be where the small wire would have to go

Re: Battery/Charging questions
Im not sure what you are refering to there, a light on the gague cluster?
If its the other 2 wires i have a question about, then they are the 2 10ga red wires(one is the power distribution (ignition switch), and the other is the power distribution(fuse block)). They run through the bulkhead connector, i cant remeber if they went to the starter post or the battery. I guess it wouldnt really matter though after thinking about it. they are both hot full time.
I just wanted it to be routed like in the original LB9 setup.
