air filter in the cowl?

ok i just bought a 4 inch cowl for my z28 and i was thinkin would there be any benefit of raising my air filter up into my cowl (its carbed) or would it be an obstruction making the cowl redundant? cuz i know the cowl works off of the negative air pressure in the engine bay sucking air in so would my air filter "plug it up" or would the air just go straight into it?

Re: air filter in the cowl?

It's not going to affect the mythological ram air effect, but it will help get colder air into the air cleaner when the car is at low speeds... and also rain water.

Re: air filter in the cowl?

It's not a waste of time, to seal your filter to the hood, and biuld an enclosre around it, so that then engine only gets 100% colder air, through thecowl.

As for "ram air"...I've never heard of it referred to that now. It has ZERO ram air effect, hence the name...cowl induction. It's a source for cooler air.

Do it. It's certainly not a bad thing to do.

Exactly. Hence the term: myth·o·log·i·cal ...

Well if you do, you can always put it back the way it was. We're not talking about a lot of money here. Just the spacer and a piece of all-thread...

Re: air filter in the cowl?

All-thread=threaded rod, longer to go up to the wingnut that holds the air filter top on.
