89 Rs won't turn/start
I bought this camaro yesterday, had to jump start it, but drove it home. I replaced the battery today. Added Oil, tranny fluid, power steering fluid, and brake fluid. I attempted to start the car but all i get is the whirring noise of the engine try to "turn over" i am not sure if thats the correct term but it's the noise you get as the engine starts, but it doesn't start.
It's not sputtering, or having trouble reaching that turnover point, it just won't fire up.
It's a stock 89 Rs 5.0 Throttle bodied.
Any help would be great, thanks!

Re: 89 Rs won't turn/start
it could possibly be your fuel pump. i had a problem with my 2.8 the starter broke so i replaced it, then the new starter would not work so i tikered with my car untill the starter worked then the car would turn over but not start. i was told it was the fuel pump by a mechanic, but i ended up finding out that the alternator's ground wire was fried so i replaced the ground wire and the car started up perfectly. i went down from a 100$ fix, to a 3$ fix. so i would look into the fuel pump to see if your getting fuel in the first place.

Re: 89 Rs won't turn/start
Afraid i may have made it worse, oh and the fuel seemed fine i was getting fuel into the carb but it was just refuseing to fire, anyway, i got 4 sparkplugs replaced but couldn't reach the other four
( any advice on that?)
i got overzealous and tried to fire it up seeing if that would work, instead of the typical wer wer wer wer noise it was giving me it went "wer" once and a small blue puff of smoke came up from around the distributer cap, now all it does when i hit the ignition is it makes a almost inaudable hum type noise from the vicinity of the distributor.
>> Ok, quiick edit, i did some work with my father and he showed me the Coil was bad, i replaced it and tried to start it again, i got the attempt to turn over but it didn't fire, so i stopped checked the engine, and tried again, it went back to the point where it's making no noise<<
So anyone got more suggestions?

Re: 89 Rs won't turn/start
Ok another update, i took the starter up to autozone so they could test it, it was tested fine, but the part where it grounds to the engine was diryty, i cleaned it and put it back on. nothing, i took my s-15 jimmy and hooked the jumper cables up to the engine and it attempted to turn over again, i'm not sure where that puts my problem yet so once again i am stuck.
>>Edit: I alway wanna mention, that with just tryign to key-start the engine, i get nothign but that light hum from the area of the distributor, but if i jump-start it, or arc the starter, the engine attempts to turn over.<<

Well make sure the ground is in a proper spot. I had the same problem with mine, try mounting it to the AC compressor, thats what i did and it started fine. before that I had to crank it with the battery box.

it has the strangest grounding setup i've ever seen, two blue amp wires come to the battery, one form the shock absorber's bolt, one from somewhere in the engine. also a small wire bolts form the frame to the battery, by small i mean the size of stock stereo wire.
