Got my car back TODAY!

Well i got my car back from the shop they installed 3:73 posi from the 2:73 open then also did a shift kit with corvette servo.
My car shifts awsome now i will be a not ever 3k rpms and chirp the tires!
The 3:73 made a difference out on the road but for some reason it dosent want to roast the tires from a dead stop.
So help if you know what i can do to beaf it up.
My story since i got it i went around a trun about 10 mph and hit the kick down it starts burnin then all the suden it shifts it burns more lol then took off like a bat out of hell lol. I am happy with these mods!
One ? for you all what would you compare my car to in a 1/4 race?
My mods:
open element
flowmaster
3:73
trans done
all emisons off car
Should i beat a 95 camry?

thanks
kevin

You now have both tires putting power to the ground rather than the right rear. Your engine still doesn't have all that much torque. The combination of low torque output and the posi keep you from roasting the tires, even though you have 3.73s. The stock torque converter in your transmission is holding you back as well. A S10 converter is a nice upgrade that will help you on your way to your next stop, which should be a full exhaust upgrade, a larger cam, and DIY tuning. The camry might be a tough one if it is a V6. I am darn sure you will kill a 4 cylinder.

My van has 3.08s and a posi along with 295/50/R17s being pulled around by a TPI 305. I can only leave powerbraked to 1,300 rpm without frying the tires. A good solid launch is KEY to winning races. I know its dark and its hard to see, but you can listen to this launch. The 1-2 upshift is at 41 mph and the 2-3 at 80 mph. 5,000 lbs VAN with a 305 Mind you. I sure hope you can beat the Camry because I certainly can.

Well soon enough i will be swapping eninges so what would be a good stall for both engines. Should i go with like 2700-3000? How much would that cost? Then about the camry i just threw it out their b/c my freind drives one lol.
thanks

Re: Got my car back TODAY!

The converter needs to be a good match to the cam, and it will be easier to put it in when you do the engine anyways. Makes more sense to only pull everything apart once. As for what stall speed, you need to know where your cam makes power at. 2500 is usually pretty good for a street car, as long as the engine has a broad torque curve.

Re: Got my car back TODAY!

how much did it cost to put the gears in? i guess parts and labor. cuz i was wantin to put a posi 3.73 in my car too. also i heard that sometimes shift kits will cause ur car to be kinda sluggish off the line.

Re: Got my car back TODAY!

Unless you have some stuff done to your car dont put out that money yet. It cost me 160 for the axels, pumpkin, pinon, then what ever else shipped to my house i found them used but in very good shape. Then i need a bearing gear for it that cost like 80 bucks then like 400 for the installation. You car can get the shift kit for 400-500 bucks with corvette servo and its alot of fun! 1 to 2nd gear fells like it wants to pull the wheels from what i had lol. Everthing they did to my car was 1100 and they did a few other things.

Re: Got my car back TODAY!

u like the corvette servo? u should try the 35% larger than corvette billet servo, 50% larger than stock billet 4th gear servo, mega boost valves and low reverse boost valves, and transgo shift kit! i got sick of the vette servo and shift kit.

a 2200-2400 stall converter is fine for your 305. no need for a anything near a 3000 stall. ur already outa ur 305's tq band. TPI;s make lots of tq down low so low 2000's would be a nice upgrade. of course u would need to upgrade ur motor... as stated above... complete exhasut is a must, then heads/cam, then intake

Re: Got my car back TODAY!

this is ironic, I just insalled a B&M shift kit in my 89 it helped tighted up the shifts alot. I am also going to throw in some 3.73s and posi as soon as they get here.... UPS HURRY!!!

Re: Got my car back TODAY!

I hope you have more work done to your car than mine or you might be a little upset. From about 0-40 i couldnt tell a huge difference but once you get by 50 mph you can really fell it.

Re: Got my car back TODAY!

yea i break the tires loose at 80mph when i get a 4-3 downshift

Jammin'trey... i wouldnt use the B&M shift kits... there kits dont have alot in them and all they do is raise line pressure. the transgo shift kits are alot better they actually reroute the trans fluids to increase shift firmness etc... ask probuiltautomatics... hes a member on here. follow him to the T he knows his trannies
