Power Steering

I want to install an inline filter in my power steering system.
Can someone point out to me, which of the two black hoses coming out of the fluid cannister/pump, is the low pressure/ return hose?
There are two, one slightly larger in diameter, and one a little smaller, the smaller one is easily removable, by two clamps, the other is fixed to the system.
Thanks.

Re: Power Steering

alldata not showing that specific info, best bet would be to disconnect 1 line from the gearbox and see which way the fluid runs when you spin the wheel with it running... a bit messy..

the pressure during a test for checking it is minimum 1000psi so it shouldn't be too hard to see which it is

if i had to guess I'd say the larger line is the return

Re: Power Steering

I had guessed the smaller one is the return hose, because it is fixed by two removable clamps, while the other, larger hose is pressed/fixed to the pump, so it can withstand higher pressure.....doesn't that make sense...??

Re: Power Steering

Probably. But it's a GM so who knows. Why would you filter your power steering fluid?

The clamp side is the low side.

Overhere in Europe, lots of power steering systems fail, because of contaminated fluid.
So I want to filter the fluid in my Firebird just in case....!!
www.magnefine.com that's the filter I'm going to use.
