To knock or not to knock???
Hi all. You may know that I have my car back to running order now. But...when the bypass wire that you unplug to set timing is plugged in, there is a knock. I unplug that wire and the knocking goes away. Is this knock sensor related?
Thanks
Thanks

Strange. By plugging in the bypass wire the ECM will advance the timing. If you have a stock PROM in the ECM it should not be knocking... Are you running low octane fuel?
Or try this, set the Base timing to 0 deg. just for a test and see if it still knocks when you plug in the wire.

Tried it, same thing. The last time I filled up I put 91 octane in.

No more ideas.? Guess I'll start throwing money at sensors. Probably a ECU will be first. This thing is really starting to bug me!!!

Re: To knock or not to knock???
OK, so I am an idiot. I went back out and rechecked my timing. It was set at 6* ATDC, hence the ping. So I unplug it and set the timing to 6* BTDC, no more ping. BUT>>>>>>>................. now it runs like total A$$. I give it a little gas, and it sounds like the bottom end is going to explode with a bunch of jumping and knocking. It idles fine! And when I shut it down it won't fire right back up. But with my *** backwards timing, it rode and drove and started fine. Just didn't have much power. What am I overlooking here? Please help!!!

Re: To knock or not to knock???
So, I have tried it a 0*, 2*BTDC, 4*BTDC, 6*, 8*, 10*, and so on. Nothing changes in the miss and jumping. I have checked all my plug wires, put in new coil, rotor, cap, and ICM. I have even tried putting it back to the 6* ATDC (where it was before
). Still nothing. I figured I could put it back to running order atleast. But now it spits and sputters, knocks and jumps no matter what.
BTW, it has no more knock or ping!!!! WEIRD
