How can I tell what engine I have?

I have an 89 pontiac firebird formula ws6 and not sure if the motor that is in it is still the original? Besides the VIN NUMBER (which designates the car to be a 305 motor) where else can I look to see if it is the same motor or a different motor (as in possibly the 350 which is in the GTA right?)
thanks

Check the numbers stamped into the deck in front of the passenger side head.

On the side of the block, it may have 5.0L or 5.7L cast into it. A casting number can tell if it's a 305 or a 350 block. The stamped numbers already mentioned can determine if the block is original or not or what it may have come out of.
