i just bought a 383 eagle steel crank 5.7 h beam rods kb forged pistons victor jr 2.08 intake heads air gap intake roller rockers balanced comp cam full roller ***** thumper specs are gross valve lift intake 533 ex 519 duration 299 319 duration at .050 in 243 ex 257 compresion is 10.4.carb is 750 mighty demon msd distributor and box but its gutless.I just raced at track and it was the same time as my 3 year old 350 12.4 in quarter.The guy who i got engine from didnt degree cam and said timing marks were wrong and to time it by ear.Im wondering if the big 2.o8 angle plug heads are to big for cam?Or if its timing and or needing to b degreed.the tranny is built turbo 350 stall is about 2500 rearend is 9 inch 411 i thought this engine shoulbd be 400 plus horse it does go fast on top but dog on bottom and hardly smokes tires!Any help or advice would b greatly appreciated i thought for sure id b in the 11s please let me know thanks.

 

Get a piston stop and verify your timing mark. Go from there.

Those cams are more show than go, but it shouldn't hold you back that much.

 

Your combination is fine as far as the motor. Your torque converter is to small for a cam with that much duration. A cam of that size needs a 3500 torque converter. Your power range with that combination is probably from 3500 to 6500.

 

didnt degree it and timing is off...thats a big thing that NEEDS to be correct. verify it first before doing anything
