Re: rear

Need to know more about your setup. More than likely a 3.73 will be fine, but a 4.11 may be better. What rpm would you like to be at going through the traps(peak hp rpm), what mph will it be doing there(rough rwhp and weight), future plans, and do you care at all about street manners?

Really, the 1/4 mile is the only reason to gear a car. The idea is that you want the motor right around peak power just as you finish off the 1/4 mile. For a properly geared car with a proper torque converter, you'll have 10% converter slip. Using 1.1 for the trans. gear ratio, your axle ratio, and tire height you get the rpm at whatever speed you're doing through the traps.

That being said, I'd say 4.11's would be better for the track, but not quite as good for the street. How about some hard numbers so you can decide which you like more. These rpm's could go up or down 100 or so from tire height:
4.11's @ 100mph WOT= 5700rpm, @ 50mph in OD= 1800rpm
3.73's @ 100mph WOT= 5200rpm, @ 50mph in OD= 1650rpm
