dont know what to do
dont know what to do
i am stumped here, i have a 91 z with the 350 tpi. It sat about a year i let it warm up then drove it for a few minutes and then i got on it and it took a little bit to shift into second but when it finally did it made a horrible kocking noise. It is still doing it, i drained the oil and checked for metal shaving and the oil was clean. Then i thought it might be the flexplate i did a visual inspection and tightend the bolts and that didnt solve the problem. I have had a few people look at it and they said they dont think its a rod. When i put the car in gear it still does it but not as loud or as much, I was thinking mayby its the timing chain, i got a wooden broom pole and held it to my ear seems like its louder in that area. any help would be greatly appreciated this car is driving me nuts. thanks and one more thing it seems like it dont have as much power as it did.

Re: dont know what to do
It could be any number of things, but if it sounds like its coming from the timing chain, then that is a good place to start. Perhaps one of its bolts came loose?
Since you say it had trouble going into second gear, did you check the tranny fluid, too?

yea it was good just a little dirty but im guessing normal, and i never heard of a timing chain making this much noise, i always thought they would go out with out warning so who knows, any tips on getting to it, never replaced one before, thanks
