Engine woes
I hope somebody can help me troubleshoot this problem (had to get towed home)!! I have been having idling or surging problems recently. On the way home tonight I left the baseball game (we lost 10-0 so it was a good start!) I started the car (surging a bit) and drove a few blocks and after coming out of a yield the car dies on me. I try and restart it but it won`t start. I actually had the fuel guage still connected because I was checking the fuel pressure on my new walbro pump I put in a couple of weeks a go. Even with the surging the pressure stayed up so it shouldn`t be the pump right, so I watched it when I turned the key to ON the fuel pressure went up and when I went to go and start it, it jump up to 90 PSI and not start. It would slowly come down and when it would reach around 40 PSI I tried to start it again and it would start and run for a second and then die. Does anybody have any ideas on what to start checking tomorrow. I am going to take the afternoon off tomorrow to try and fix it.

Hey Darrell, 90 psi sounds super high to me. Do you an adjustable fuel pressure regulator?

Yeah I have an adjustable one that I just replaced (a couple of weeks ago)the diaphram in (stock on from parts source). Even this morning the fuel pressure was reading about 36-38 PSI at idle and a heavy accelleration it would only go up to about 46 PSI which is where I have it set to. I don`t know why it would all of a sudden go up to 90 PSI when I try and start it unless something happened with the diaphram and something is clogged.

I don't know what would make the pressure go up like that, even if something was clogged. Sounds like a fire or ingnition problem to me. If it were me I would try to see if i was getting any spark. Coil or Ignition Module maybe?

Re: Engine woes
I fixed this particular problem...the diaphram that I had put in about a month ago came apart inside the housing. When I took the AFPR off the bottom half was in pieces (tiny spring, swivel piece and the plate). I am glad that the spring didn't go into either side of the rails though. Of course when I replaced this a month ago it was fine so I threw out the receipt and when I went and bought another one I asked about the warranty and they said it was a year. I guess I will be holding on to the receipt!!. Not I need to fix the next problem hopefully that will be simple (driving stumble) plus I am going to do a tune up right away (plugs, wires, cap and rotor, and maybe put some sea foam to clean out the vacuum lines. I haven't drove it much yet tonight but I will have to see if I still have the surging or not.
Would my walbro pump have caused my AFPR regulator to explode or was it just bad from the start??
