CAN YOU HELP WITH MY ENGINE RUN PROBLEM?

Well you guys have been great help in the past, maybe you can help me agian.

A brief summery: 1989 350 TPI with 700r4, with painless lockup converter control. All of this is installed in an 83 jeep cj7 (I know I know....). It's been in and running great for the past year and a half.

Normally when I start it up it runs at a higher idle for a while (open loop I think). I can start driving right away and as it warms up the idle comes back down to normal. This doesn't take long at all.

I went to start it a week or so ago and noticed it was a little harder starting then normal and when it did start it went right to its low idle position. I put it in gear and the engine died. After doing that once or twice, I started it agian and reved the engine just above idle for a bit. After that I was able to drive it just fine. It has done this every time since then. My MIL comes on each start up as normal then turns right off.

I wonder if maybe my torque converter is locking up, or maybe something totally different.

You guys have any ideas?

Thanks for the idea. I have a mechanical fan, but I haven't checked to see if it's locked up. If's that's the case, the added drag may be causing my problem.
