wat rocker stud do i need? effective stud length?
bought patriot 195cc heads a while back, i got the hyd, roller cam spring upgrade... which involves, dual springs, 2hundreths longer intake/exhaust valves(didnt kno that till i asked about the studs a week ago), and lift good for .622 i believe, other upgrades are porting, stainless backcut?swirlpolished valves, vitton seals, 5 angle valve job, and partly CNC combustion chambers, and 3/8" screw in studs
i went to install the rocker suds and they are basially the same height as the intake valve stem!!! i have self aligning narrow body proform 1.6 aluminum rockers and comp cams .100 longer pushrods which is wat im suppose to have. when insalled on a 305 block with a flat tappet cam, i installed a hydralic roller lifter to just rig up something to test the rocker stud length... everything was good except i only had like 3 full turns on the poly lock... which is not enough threads for strength.
i called skip white and they sent out there longest rocker studs which are only 1/16 longer than the ones i got. they also gave me guide plates when i bought the heads but i cant use them with the self aligning rockers. the new longer studs are barely taller than the intake valve and prob only give me 1-2 more turns on the poly lock.
effective stud length stock 1.750
effective stud length original skip white studs 1.812
effective stud length longest skip white studs 1.875
ARP 3/8" rocker stud for roller rockers 1.895
the diff from the ARP and the longest skips studs is not enough to be worth it. im guessing i need something with atleast 2.00 effective stud length since the valves are 2hundreths longer.. but i cant find anything???
wat studs do i need or will i be ok with what i have... i was thinking of hacking the guide plates to i would have that extra .125" that i would need.

Sounds to me like the pushrods are too long, or maybe the shaft that goes over the stud is flipped 180 where the nut is on the side not machined flat. I really don't think that .100" or .200" would make that much of a difference in my rockers.

Hydro roller lifter is .600 taller than flat tappet ;
SBC flat tappet pushrod 7.800 / Hydro pushrod 7.200

i got comp cams high energy pushrods, length is 7.29" .100 longer than stock for 87-99 OEM hyd, roller lifter cams. skips white said that will the heads i would need .100 thousands longer pushrods which they said was 7.3"

the cam is a XFI 280, 230/236 .571/.576 with 1.6rr. the cam that was in the 305 i tested on was a hydraulic flat tappet(the 305cam was a compcams hyd.flat tappet 350TPI cam), but i pulled the lifter out and threw in one of my new speedpro hydraulic roller lifters just as a mock up. the rocker lined up on the valve stem perfectly it was just that i could only get 3-3.5 full turns on the poly lock finger tight. (i did have the flat side of the shaft in the roller rocker the right way up so the flat surface was on top.)
the only diff on the engine i would be using it on would be the cam, would be a hyd, roller vs the hyd fat tappet, but i swapped out the lifter to a hyd roller so i dont think it would make that much of a diff. and i tested it without a head gasket... which is only .039 felpro stockers. the 305 was bone stock, no decking machine work done, just bored .030 and alignhoned etc. the rule of thumb is to get the same amount of threads as the width of ur rocker stud, mines 7/16" so im not sure where im gona get the threads since i have the studs that measure almost as long as ARP's roller rocker studs. anyone have any idea????
oh sry spring upgrade for hyd, roller cam gives me up too .655 lift. and the valve stems are 2 hundreths longer... and the pushrods are 1 hundreths longer.
