Starting problems...

Car: 1982 Firebird
Engine: 305 V8
Starting problems...
When I go from a stop and try to accelerate very quickly, my car sputters and dies. I was wondering if this is an easy thing to fix, or if something is seriously messed up. Thanks for the help...
