So I just converted my 82 from a th200c and a 305 CFI to a mechanical carbed (750dp) 385ci and a th350. The car starts up but then dies in about 8-10 seconds. I turned the key to on and saw the fuel pump come on and prime the system to 6 spi and then kick off. The problem seems to be that I missed a wire on something that turns the pumpon while then engine is running. The bowls are running dry and then the motor dies. When I turn the key back to on I can here the bowls fill up.

I have a mallory return style pump but how do I get the pump to run while the engine is running. I see 0 psi on the guage while the motor is running. I am sure I just missed something that is preventing the pump tocome on. What did I miss and where is it. Thanks.

 

Exactly how are you supplying power to the fuel pump?

Are you using the factory installed fuel pump relay?

Are you still using the ECM or have you removed it?

Thanx guys, I got it figured out. I wired the orange wire to a ignition hot then wired all 3 red wires from the relay to the orange bypassing the relay. Now the pump runs whenever the key is in on. Car runs now and has mad its maiden voyage! Thanx again.
