Re: no timing marks

double checked today, and unless ive gone blind recently then there are no timing marks...

any idea on how to check timing without them?

or how to install a new set of timing marks?

Re: no timing marks

where are you looking for them at ? if your looking at the 2 o'clock position on the drivers side . wrong , thats where most people would look . some genius at g.m. decided to move them to 12 o'clock behind water pump . look straight down behind waterpump . hope this helps , don't forget to disconnect e.s.t. wire . good luck .

Re: no timing marks

no , waterpump is not in the way . look down between back of waterpump and front of block . you will see a metal circle , that is where the mark on the balancer will show with the timing light .

Re: no timing marks

Thanks a ton uncle tom, i would have never looked there.

no to dig up an image of a labeled timing mark and figure out what my timing it, i know its retarded cuz its sitting on the far right edge, but the timing tab is rusted to hell and im not messing with wirebrushing it in its position.

*edit* thanks to you as well osirus. of course once while im digging up this image i read about GM shifting the timing tab upwards.

Re: no timing marks

exactly what i was looking for. on mine it is barely lining up with the FAR right side of the right hand peak, could be the cause of my car failing emissions for HC being a touch high.

Re: no timing marks

IIRC the first peak is 4 degrees, and then each trough and peak after that is 2.

Re: no timing marks

So, in the pic on post 11, 0 deg is in the trough, and the peak immediately to the left is +4 deg?
