no start runs on starting fluid

Hello, can't figure this out. Car runs great on starting fluid, but will not start without it. It really, really wants to start but there is a no gas condition? Assuming because it runs with fluid that fuel injectors work and ignition module works: But car will not start on it's own. Have checked or replaced: fuel pump primes and squirts fluid, fuel filter is brand new, new tune up parts...etc. All fuses check good. Checked codes, has #12. Every thing checks out, still car will not start. Help! any info would be great. Thanks

P.S. when the engine cranks and tries to start, there is No gas smell, like the engine is getting No gas what so ever? Seems strange...

Re: no start runs on starting fluid

if it starts up on starting fluid, then dies it sounds like a fuel issue-does it keep running after starting with the fluid, or die right away? what year/motor is the car? how do you know the pump and injectors are supplying fuel? the pump noise at KOEO isnt a reliable indicator of fuel supply. you can still have an injector problem within the pcm itself.

sorry, i just realized all your info on the car is posted on your profile

Re: no start runs on starting fluid

Well, the engine just runs when the starting fluid is being sprayed, it won't run with out it at all. I had someone check the sharder valve it sprayed and he said there is fuel up to that point but it doesn't seem to be going to the injectors to fire the engine, so it could be the injectors not being told to fire for some reason? I realize it is a fuel problem. I also swapped out another used computer to see if that did anything, but it didn't make any difference, it was exactly the same, No fuel, if the injectors aren't getting fuel then my question is why not? what do I check or replace to find out why? Thanks

Rather than the fuel not getting to the injectors, it's more likely that the pressure isn't sufficient, or that the injectors aren't getting the proper signal.

Get a fuel pressure gage on that Schrader valve. Verify power is getting to the injectors (there should be power on one side when the ignition is on - the ECM completes the circuit by grounding the other side to open the injector).

Re: no start runs on starting fluid

im thinking the same as five7kid,
your injectors should be powered at one side,
if you dont have power, start at your inj. fuses and work your way down the circuit. if your power side checks out okay, check the wires from the injectors to the pcm itself to make sure they are intact. if your confident with electrical testing and diagnosis this is no big deal, if not you may want to find someone to help or even seek a good shop in your area.

Re: no start runs on starting fluid

Sounds to me that your fuel pump is to weak, it may be sending fuel to the motor just not enough fuel to make it run. I would check and see what psi the pump is pushing. Im not for sure what psi is suppose to be but i read its around 45-65 psi.
