Question About Reving my Engine

I am curious if there can anything that can go wrong by me revin my engine . By mean pressing the gas pedal all the way to the ground hard and then letting up on it quickly . I have a 305 TPI Engine . I have a buyer who is interested in my camaro and out of everything you can ask this is the only question he has asked ? And that he wants to see if the gas pedal goes all the way down to the floor ? Is this normal or is this just someone pretending to be interested and just wanting me to blow something ?

Re: Question About Reving my Engine

If you don't do it all the time, I don't really see the harm in it. Just make sure it's warmed up, and don't take it to red line. That is a very weird question for that guy to ask though. If he wants to smash it to the floor, and rev the crap out of it, tell him that it is not good for the engine.

Re: Question About Reving my Engine

hmmm, not sure exactly what thats going to prove, but unless the engine is on its lastlegs its not going to blow up unless you hold it WOT while the valves float waiting for one to drop!

Re: Question About Reving my Engine

This is what he emailed me .

""Hey man awesome looking camaro. I am looking for something that I work
on and make into a bad *** street car.

The past 2 camaros I had, had a lot of problems with the pedal
linkage for the throttle. The plastic pedal part you step on looks like
it was made wrong so the pedal wouldnt actually go all the way down to
the floor. I want to check this out on your car before I make an
offer, could you possibly get some better pictures of the gas pedal and
email them to me?

Also, I want to see how responsive the motor is to
the throttle. If your camera does video, could you get me a few clips
showing your foot on the throttle revving it up? I want to see how the
motor responds especially when you get on it hard. ""

Re: Question About Reving my Engine

Sounds like he's asking for two different things dude.... He's not asking for you to rev the motor by pushing the pedal to the floor.. He's asking to confirm that the pedal has full travel (a silly request in my opinion)...and he's asking to hear the motor rev (reasonable i guess).

The pedal not going to the floor is amateur. If you cant figure out how to make a pedal that isnt getting wot get its full travel then wrenching might not be a good idea. I cant remember that being an issue with 3rdgens. And he's worked on "2 camaros"...so he shouldnt care about that anyway, he should have a fix for it.

The rev request is probably just to hear that the car runs and that it runs reasonably well. I would give him a couple little revs. No need to floor it and wind it up. I rev my car all the time. Back when it was a TPI and now. Just dont sit there and do the import thing and constantly wind it up to redline.

Re: Question About Reving my Engine

well as far as the motor goes, having a car with a 17+yr old motor and redlining on a rev is not so safe in my opinion lol

with the pedal that guy doesnt sound too intelligent, the only time ive seen the pedals not have full travel is when people stick the pedals you get at a parts store that cost like $10 and normally are seen on hondas. Or if the linkage isnt adjusted properly but if i remember the pedal is only held on with a bracket using 2 bolts

good luck with the camaro, shame your selling it

If he's buying it to work on and make a "bad *** street car", he better be able to handle a minor gas pedal problem or he's wasting his money.
I'd tell him that the car is one of "those" that has the crappy pedal.
