Is My Oil Pan Gasket Sealing?
I am replacing my oil pan & gasket due to a jack-slippage. I used the Fel Pro one piece. All in all, this project hasn't been quite as terrible for me as some on TGO, even with a 5speed.
I don't have a torq wrench but have tightened all the fastners down just beyond hand tight (hard to describe but wouldn't make my torq wrench click). My gasket still has some play like it's not totally sealing. On the front & rear curved part, it's nice and tight. In the middle is has some give, but on the corners it's obviously not touching the block? This can't be right. I've tightened the corners down quite a bit. My studs have these little "stoppers" or whatever, they didn't hinder my old gasket from sealing, althought I never checked to see how much play it had (had to use the gasket scraprer to get it loose)
The gasket is not binding or misaligned anywhere. Was I supposed to remove the little O's around the studs? What the hell? All help appreciated.
EDIT: nevermind, I followed common sense and rook the studs out and removed the little annoying donuts and put it all back together before the RTV had a chance to set. I'm guessing they were part of the old gasket.
Thanks,
Eric
