LT1 Cam in a L98

Has anyone used this cam in a L98, if so will there be any noticeable difference than what comes factory in the L98. This engine is in a 1989 IROC-Z.

Re: LT1 Cam in a L98

The L98 cam wasn't alot different, just very slightly smaller. The specs varied a bit year to year with the LT1, but they weren't radically different than the L98 cams. I wouldn't recommend swapping an L98 cam for an LT1. It works well in the 5.0 engines because they had fairly small cams, especially the TBI and the auto trans LB9, but the L98 cam was substantially bigger than what those engines had.

If you want to make it worthwhile, use the stock LT4 cam at minimum, though the LT4 hotcam would be better.

Do you have a vortec motor in that thing? That's the cam specs for a 96-99 L31-L30 engine or a b-body LT1 cam.

The F-car LT1 cam specs are (202@.050", 207@.050", .450/.450, 117 LSA) from the info I could find.

Re: LT1 Cam in a L98

Since I'm guessing that you have an 88 L98 car I would just suggest using 1.6 rockers with the cam you already have. Here's what the specs are for your cam and what they would be with the 1.6's.

10066049 207/213 - .415/.430 117 LSA L98 cam

10066049 210/216 - .443/.459 117 LSA L98 cam

That would give you little extra getup with the 1.6's. It would put you closer to Lt1 cam specs but give you more duration, which sometimes means alittle more power in the top end. But remember if you replace the cam be sure to replace the valve springs while you're at it.

I already have a thread comparing the 2 cams in question but my car has a 305. There might be some good info for you.
