Simple questions about routine maintenance
Hey,
I'm pretty new to the do-it-yourself car stuff, just had some real simple questions about my 91 305 Formula.
-Wanted to change the plugs, but can't see any possible way of doing this from the top. Do I have to go underneath to change em (even that looks real tricky)?
-Fuel filter change...there is no fuse named F Pump or FP on my fuse block...how can I kill the fuel pump to change the filter?
-Transmission...there are two plugs on the left side of the case (when looking at the car from the front)...which one is the fluid check plug?
And when placing jack stands, what is the ideal position? On the back I know its the axle, but the swaybar makes finding a place on the axle challenging...and what about the front?
Thanks!

For jacking, read this: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/susp...ion-101-a.html
Fuel filter change, disconnect negative battery terminal and go for it.
Transmission should have no drain plug unless someone added one, the oil drain plug is on the oil pan in front of the trans.
Changing plugs on these cars in stock form is no fun. Take your time, use a spark plug socket with a hex end at the end, the pass rear you have to get from underneath. Use whatever it takes, universal joint, extensions, sparkplug socket and wrench should do the trick. Good luck!

Thanks,
Won't the fuel line still be pressurized though?
As for transmission, I didn't mean drain plug, just a plug to check fluid level. I see two possible plugs, just don't know which is which.
Another thing, my heads wold be iron or aluminum? Just wondering which type of plugs to get (91 formula 305 stock)
Thanks,
Cam

Even if the fuel line is still pressurized you might only lose a few ounces of fuel.
On my '85, there is a dipstick for the tranny near the back of the engine on the passenger side, under the hood.
I believe your heads would be iron, but you can check with a magnet.

Re: Simple questions about routine maintenance
Every time I changed plugs in my 91 rs 305 I had to get the back drivers side from underneath as well as the 2 back ones on the passenger side. the rest I did from the top. As for the fuel filter I recomend taking the fuel cap off this will relieve pressure form the tank and not force so much fuel out when you take off the filter. The heads will be cast iron. The plug to check trany fluid is the top one. Hope this helps.
