84 Z too much of a project?

A guy down the road has an 84 Z28 auto roller for sale with $800 on the sign. No engine, trans, and I didn’t see a hood. It has five spoke alloy wheels, T-Top, decent tires, the body appears straight. I’m guessing it was a Z, it has body molding that appears to be that of a Z, but no badging is there so it might be some other option package. I’d give the body a cautious good, the interior is somewhere between fair and poor, but not ratty. I’m sure every seal as well as the carpet and seats are needing replacement. The glass and lenses are there with no issues.

I have been looking for a C4 project for something fun like a LS type swap, but this thing has me thinking; is it worth bringing home? I would want to put a Tremec in the car and maybe a LQ4. I’ve got some cash for a project, and I imagine I could bring it home for at or near $500, but I’m tight and don’t know very much about the third gen cars, so I’m a little nervous about pulling the plug; so should I bring it home?

Thanks for your thoughts!

Honestly, I think you are the only one who could decide the answer to this question. Is it something you would be happy with even if it was in MINT condition?
I'm not an expert on these third gens, but the first place I would look would be at the floors. They seem to be the part that goes on these cars.

I bought a complete BASKET CASE 84 Z28 over the summer. Everything is there except for a hood, windshield, rearend and headliner(from what I was told). There is a TON of parts that came with it. The car is the most solid car I have ever seen(for being 25 years old that is ) . There is literally NO rust on the car, but it is going to take a TON of work to put it back together. I paid $500 for it.

I bought an 1983 Z28 for 500$ bucks 2 months ago. It ran.. Drove it home and everything. Nothing wrong with the body.. Just a black hood on a red body. Engine needed some work though.. Had a exhaust leak, Coolant leak, Smoking valve covers and exhaust, smog pump seized, vacuum leak, wouldn't go into first gear easily. I fixed almost 90% of the problems and its looking good now.. Im in the process of replacing valve seals and i should be all good to go.

For 800$ bucks.. You can get a decent camaro.. even running and drivable.. You just gotta do your shopping

I got mine for free... it was a junker, but it's coming along. Dont get in a hurry, because it will take time. If you want it done right now don't do it, because it's going to take more time than you think. However, mine has been a rewarding experience and I'm nowhere near done. But it's going to have a kick-butt motor in it before too long and it will be drivable... the body on the other hand...
