Gooseneck Bolt

I was going to replace the thermostat while I have the coolant drained so I started working on the bolt. I got the front one out but the second one (nut w/stud) feel like it ready to snap off. Either way, in or out it gives me much resistance and that mean friction which isn't good. Any ideas of how you(I should) get this off? Thanks. Also, where is the coolant temp? Up on the front part of the manifold?
