Does anyone have this set? Can anyone tell me if this is a good set of lifters? Or do you know of a better set under $150? These will be going on a stock 1989 305 TPI.

They are OEM style lifters. If your block is set up for a factory roller cam, then you can use them. I don't see any real gain over the stock ones though.

 

I should have put in some info for the change. I got the car and it had been sitting for 4 years and only started every now and then. The guy just wanted it gone. So I got it for such a low price I wont even say. One problem with the engine is a lifter must have gone bad with it sitting for so long. I adjusted them and it ran fine for about 30 minutes then started ticking again. Sometimes I would start it it would do fine, then start ticking again. I bought a set of used GM lifters but just not sure if I would trust them I cant tell if they are all good.

So that got me to this point, I did not want to spend alot to get lifters till I do a total rebuild on the engine. Then I will see about getting something to match the build.

Sounds more like the rocker arm nut isn't holding, or the rocker stud is pulling out. Lifters don't generally adjust and then start making noise.

 

Well I will check the studs. Looking across them they look level. I can take my straight edge and lay across them to make sure. I think I did that before the valve adjustment. So I would not be ajdusting them for the fun of it. Dang getting older just makes you laugh at life.

What I was thinking is my lifter after setting for so long must not hold oil or the oil is not getting to the lifter properly. So it can work some then fail. Or I did not adjust them correctly. Do they not dry rot if they don't get used every now and then?

 

new lifters get GM LS7 lifters for 110 bucks or so new these days. Great lifter good for 7000 rpm. Cant beat the price. They are doing well in my 383 all the way to 6800 rpms, even tho i shift at 6500

yes thats the one. its gone up in price since i bought mine earlier this year. 120 is still good tho

They will work fine in all roller motor blocks. Just beware that the pushrods may need upgraded to a slightly longer rod as the pushrod cup in the LS7 style lifter sits abit lower than other factory lifters.
