Sucking coolant

Quick question. If I use a wet/dry vac to suck coolant from the intake can I get enough out so when I pull the intake and heads it won't overflow everywhere? The plugs in the block seemed to be seized solid figured this would be another way to do it. Thanks

Nothing? I guess it would be good to get those plugs out anyway to flush it out. I'm just trying to get these damn heads off before it gets too cold.

Re: Sucking coolant

You can get most when you open the drain on the radiator. It will help alot. I did that before pulling my intake and very samll amount of fluid was left in the intake. I had more fuel from the fuel lines then water from the engine. I am not sure about the heads, would not think much would be in them.

First time getting this deep into sbc. When I get them off its probably going to stay that way until spring, so I didn't want a bunch of coolant getting everywhere and sitting there all winter.

Re: Sucking coolant

You would be better off leaving it alone, then letting it sit that long.
You will have more rust on the inside of you engine with them off.

Yeah, if you can just hold off till spring. It will save you some work in the long run.

The inside of the engine is covered in oil, it's not going to rust.
