Any other way to Fuel pump access???

Looked at what it takes to get to the fuel pump on a third gen, just want to know is there any other way to get to it that does not involve taking the fuel tank down.

Re: Any other way to Fuel pump access???

if you look around, there are a few posts about cutting an access in the hump in the trunk to gain access, it does require cutting said hole very carefully and then cutting the fuel lines, and splicing them back together when you are done.

I feel that the above it the totally wrong way to do a pump swap, some people feel that it is "easier" but i will still say it is the wrong way to do it, even if it does save time .

I recently removed a tank from a 91, and swapped the pump, i feel that if i had done it in my garage at home, with my tools, rather than in a driveway with no tools to speak of , i could do it again in about 3 hours start to finish. the hardest part is getting the exhaust apart, especially if you want to keep it and its welded ot clamped together and crimped.

Don't cut the hole threw the trunk just think about this getting rear ended and having the tank rupture where could that gas / flames etc. go you,ll end up looking like a Pinto.
