What should I do...
What should I do...
Ok.. So i just purchased my 1987 Camaro Iroc... The car had a brand new engine put in 40,000 miles ago.. they put in a 350 5.7l engine.. however i just looked up the part number on yahoo and it came back to an engine replacement and stated it only has 200 hp... the car is quick and everything but i am looking for something that will destroy other cars.. well not destroy.. i want something that will be fun to drive as a daily driver however i want something that will beat my brothers TL.. can the engine be built up enough to produce 300+ hp.. if so what would i need to get those numbers? would it be easier/more cost effective to just replace the entire engine? i dont mind putting money into the car as i am planning on havin the vehicle for a while.. but i dont want to spend 1,000+ on parts to build up the 350 when i could have had double the power with a simple replacement engine.. thanks for any input..

Re: What should I do...
Give us some details on what exact motor is in the car. What motor was put in? what part number/etc?
That will give us an idea of what you have and what could be upgraded, but the general answer i can give you is that more than likely it can be built to have 300hp or more with what you have but depends. Alot of things may have to be changed out, so is it worth it? maybe, maybe not.
More information is needed

The motor is part number 12520268. This is what I got off this webstie when I punched in the p/n on yahoo..
Goodwrench 5.7L 350ci V8 Gas - 1987-95(TBI) trucks, vans, light duty 2 bolt main (7200GVW). SBC crate engine. [Old P/N 12520268]
Then when i got the newer/updated p/n for this product and punched it in i found this:
"This two-bolt main block has a one-piece nodular iron crankshaft and powdered metal connecting rods with dished hypereutectic pistons for a 9.4:1 compression ratio. It features a flat tappet hydraulic camshaft and swirl port intake design. The exhaust flange is 7-bolt, and the valve covers are centerbolt. 200 horsepower rating at 4000 RPM (300 ft/lbs TQ) and includes an 8" balancer, 4-quart oil pan, timing cover, and valve covers."
I punched in my info on SummitRacing and found a power package by edelbrook. It says it will work with my car and give me 410hp but it costs 1800 plus not sure what kind of price i am going to be looking at for install.. This is what i was looking at. http://store.summitracing.com/partde...8&autoview=sku

Re: What should I do...
ok, not the best platform to work with but you can work with it. It has a very mild cam, not sure of the specs but i know its small
Heads are probly crappy too but the compression isnt bad so with decent heads you can make some power. Probly got the same type bottom end as the L98 or so. That can hold over 400hp.
Basically all you really need to do is swap in a real cam and good heads and match it up to a intake manifold of your choice. 300 on motor is easy to get but at the wheels will require abit more work but still doable.
