Timing Help
Ok I have a 92 RS with a 305 TBI, the car ran great but i need to start to get more power out of it and i recently add some parts... I got a new distributor, new cap, rotor, and coil, i got a tbi spacer and my problem started when i pulled the distributor when i time the car i have to retard it way before Zero on the harmonic balancer with the ecm unplugged and i tune it to 6 degrees BTC and it runs great, you plug the ecm in at it runs about 12 degrees BTC. You can shut the car off and it will start right back up no problem at all. If the car sits longer than an hour you go to start it up again it will not start at all with or without the ecm pluged in. It I retard it before Zero it will start back up but not run smooth like it does at 6 degress why is this.... I also did brand new plugs, fuel filter, injectors, Map Sensor, Thottle response sensor it also has a hypertech chip but this has been removed and I still get the same problem... I dont know what else to do... can someone please help.....
thanks
thanks

Does the underhood sticker call for 0d?.
If you set it to spec., and it runs, then leave it at spec.. If you want to add 6d timing at idle, they you need to do that in the chip.
This is assuming the electrical system is right. Electrical gremlins are a whole nother matter.

problem description was backwards
my problem is backwards the car will only starts if you advance it not retard it I made a mistake, it to be like 20 degrees advanced to start the car and runs like crap then I adjust it down about 8 degrees and it runs better but after driving for a little while it runs fine but it wants to die at idle just put in a brand new MAP and IAC new ECM and distributor, new cap and rotor and I dont have the VECI lable the stock hood did not come with the car and haynes manuls do not tell base timing.... I dont know what else to replace new wires and plugs and fuel filter too.... I got a new PROM chip and runs the same I cannot seem to find a vacume leak

First do what Grumpy recommends, that is verify that the damper TDC mark is TDC. A search on the general/tech board will reveal information on how to do this.
As for the strange timing (startup vs. run) did this start after the distributor was replaced?

ok the dampner is right...... its not off.... I was thinking maybe that it was the CTS because on my model the CTS tells ECM to dump more gas when engine is cold(somewhat like a choke) but I will see if that is my problem and the problem did start after I put the new distribtor in... it is not a tooth off i had that checked by serveral ppl that are all stumped just like me we pulled valve covers off to make sure.... the control module on the new distribtor was new too could that be a possible problem as well thanks for your time guys.....

As you mentioned that this started after the distributor was replaced it sounds like the distributor pickup coil to module wires are reversed.
Try this: disconnect the EST connector, start the engine and time it to 0 degrees BTDC. Watch the timing mark for a bit and verify that it holds steady (+- a degree or from timing chain slack).
While observing the timing mark slowly rev the engine up to 2,000 RPM. Someplace around 1,600/1,800 RPM there should have been an sudden increase in timing, 6 to 10 degrees. If not then the module is bad.
Shut the engine off and reconnect the EST connector.
Start up the engine and check the timing (also verify that the SES light is off). It should now be at about 21 degrees BTDC. If not then something is wrong in the distributor. Either the module is bad or the pickup coil is bad.
Another item that can be checked is the star wheel on the distributor shaft (under the cap). Check for broken teeth and that it is tight on the shaft.
