I need to take my third gen into a local shop to get some work done; I commute back and forth with work and don't have time on the weekends to work on my car much. I've never had any work done to an older car like this, so I need alittle ball park figure on what to expect from the mechanic so I don't get terribly ripped off.
I recently had a family mechanic swap an Edelbrock carb to a Holley DP 700. He told me that the Edelbrock carb was about 2 inches higher, and that the Holley needs a spacer plate under it. He mentioned something about having to jury rig the Brake Booster. Sure enough, my brakes are mushy, and the car stalls out in traffic after excessive braking.
I want to get this fixed so I won't be scared to drive my own car again, but I can't devote the time to do it myself.
I'm taking it to the shop to get a plate ordered and installed, and to make sure the carb is properly tuned. Whats a ball-park figure for this kind of work?
