So... I picked up an IROC camaro and i started looking into the drivetrain and what I have... so from a visual inspection of the motor...

Block: 5.7L
Carb: Edelbrock 800cfm w/ elec choke
Intake: Holley Street Dominator
Heads: 333882 casting GM heads
Cam: Lunati Duration 290/ 297, Lift .490/ .490...?? Guy said its a .490 lift lunati... this is my guess.
Exhaust: Edelbrock TES headers to 3" cat to 3" catback


Seems like an awful lot of carb... not really a good setup. Any feedback? It's just a driver for now... I' m thinking I need to ditch the 800cfm carb at the least. What kind of power do you think I am making with this? I'm doubting even 300. Trans is a TH350 with 2800 stall.

any comments / advice to make this a decent driver would be appreciated. Eventually... I'd like a nice blower setup in there.. but for now I want to focus on putting the interior/suspension together and the last thing I will do is the motor as tht is the highest $ item.

Probably in the 300 range. Horrible choice of heads, they're probably costing at least 50 HP.

Carb is bigger than necessary, and of the wrong type IMHO.

 

do you have a carb recommendation? thing is stupid rich.. spits gas out WITH a cat on

 

the carb isn't hurting anything though, so i'd leave that on for now. Dollar for dollar, it won't give you the most hp/$ vs other mods.
Get a jet kit and tune it.

Go for heads first.

 

thats kinda what i was thinking... I couldnt understand the logic behind those heads being used... or what benefit there is to them.

 

Heads alone won't totally solve the problem of spitting gas. The carb needs attention. Call edelbrock's tech line. If you're inclined to buy heads now, I'd leave the cam and lifters as they are, unless you see that one or more lobes are nearly gone. Easier for now to change the cam. I'd suggest the COMP CAMS DualEnergy275, with that 2800 stall. I wouldn't go any smaller in case there are domed pistons in there. Good luck with the project!

 

nah i just bought the car and would rather focus on interior and suspension for now and leave the motor as it is for the most part. think the farthest i want to go is to tune the carb and call it a day for a while.
