starter and ecm not getting power?
hey guys...so, gas prices finally came down enough to make driving my camaro a few days a week feasible, so i was hoping someone could help me get it back on the road. While it was sitting, a few months back it ran fine, and it had an alarm system hack rigged in by the previous owner, which was disabled, and seemed to be just kinda hangin in there, so a friend and i pulled it out, and since then the car won't crank, the ecm isnt getting power, no power to the fuel pump either. The interior lights, courtesy alarm and headlights still get power, but seemingly nothing else. Been lookin over schematics but still a little confused, anyone know where i should start troubleshooting? was stupid of me to just pull wires and not expect this consequence, lol. any input would be appreciated.

Re: starter and ecm not getting power?
If the alarm had a start disable option on it (Most do) then you may have your work cut out for you. More then likely the VATS has been bypassed when they installed the alarm. This will possibly need to be bypassed another way or put back together. There is usually quite a bit of cutting and splicing that goes into installing alarm systems that all has to be un-done when they are taken out. They also generally use a few relays to allow the alarm system to control normal electrical functions. These relays may still be there and wired up. If this is the case these will have to be removed and the wires put back to the way they were before the alarm was even installed.
Get a good wiring diagram and see how far down the line you are getting voltage. This can aid in figuring out where the issue is.

thanks, it was an old early 90's viper alarm system, and my cars an 87 so I believe its pre-VATS right? also was wondering why there was three random relays dangling down...so...where should I start troubleshooting...I get +12v to my fuse block...I can't wait to get my baby back on the road...I just hope I don't have to cough up the $$ to take her to a shop...I may a bit stingy ;-)

Re: starter and ecm not getting power?
anyone know which color wires could be the culprit? if im getting power to the fuse block from the battery, and not getting power to the ecm, the wires from the fuse box to the ecm would be the issue right? not sure about the starter....if someone could explain that system to me that would be cool...i dont mean like what a starter does...but i think it get grounded all the time and then when you turn the key it completes the circuit and powers the solenoid and starter motor right? and this would be the thick yellow wire coming out of my steering column right? thanks for any help guys.
