Factory Oil Cooler Question

Can I leave the cooler between the filter and block in place and just cap off the two outlets (mine has about 3" of hose between the hardline and the cooler)? Obviously, I'll reroute on the other end, as well. This way, if a future owner wants to put the car back to stock (if there ever is one), it's one less thing to do.

You can. Why not just leave it working, though?

Re: Factory Oil Cooler Question

I can't find the short molded hoses and using straight hose causes a constant leak. The hardlines are a pain to work around under the car and provide minimal (if any) benefit. If I experience unbearable driving conditions from the lack of coolant running around the filter housing, I can always intensify my effort to find the hose. Nobody is ever going to pay me what I have invested in the car anyway, so I in terms of value, I can't believe I'm doing anything that bad

I used 3/4" straight heater hose and it doesn't leak. You can just leave the hoses off it or remove it (you'll have to replace the two mounting bolts with shorter ones though).

Re: Factory Oil Cooler Question

Thanks - I just capped them off. Should I ever find the correct hose, I'll consider re-installing. Straight hose didn't work for me, and I've opened up a little more room when working under the car (which I do much more than driving it).

If you loosen the bolt in the middle you can spin it. It makes installing new hoses a lot easier. Also a good time to replace the rubber seal.
