Difference between 87 and 88 firebird?

Hi All,

Ok, here's the deal I just bought my daughter a factory manual for her 1982 Trans Am for a decent price ($25) off of eBay and I asked the seller if he had another factory manual for 1987 Firebird (my car) at the same price - he says he's got a 1988 factory manual and that he doesn't think there was much difference between the 87 and 88 so it should suffice.

So the question is are there any major differences between the 1988 and 1987 model years? If it makes a difference my car is a V6.

Thanks!

V-groove and flat multi-groove accessories in '87, serpentine in '88.

No TBI in '87, TBI standard V8 in '88.

Probably other things that you could find by comparing the '87 and '88 Firebird tech data on the thirdgen.org homepage.

water pump is different part # (reverse rotation). Goes hand in hand with the serpentine switchover. BTW, Wasn't TBI offered in 87? I'm almost positive it was offered in trucks.

no TBI was introduced in 88. Carb was the last yr for f body in 87, then tbi took its place. it was offered in the trucks i believe too.

GM put TBI in the trucks in '87 and '88 in cars.
