$ vs. gain is really not worth the labor. if you are going that deep into an engine you should have more cubic inches like a 350. you can pick up a good running 350 from a 97-98 chevy truck for the price you will spend putting new pistons in your 305.....
i know someone will chime in with their"my 305 beat a 350 story" in actuality they never tell you they put a rediculous amount of money into the 305 or installed a turbo system......whatever the case 350 is more superior

there is a lot of work involved in "new pistons", you have to disassemble the entire engine. and a stock replacement piston will gain you nothing, a dome piston will gain compression, but without any other supporting mods to the rest of the engine, will not be worth the effort.
A good set of headers, and good catback would be a goo start to gain some power is you havent done them already.
