5.3 vortec VIN location?

as title states, where is it? ive done alot of searching on the web and cant find anything. i know the casting number is on the drivers side back of the block on an ls1, so im assuming that is the same, but no info on where the VIN is...

Im guessing you wanna know if its a 5.3 or a 4.8? I had one of each and from the out side they look the same. they use the same block and heads. I never seen a VIN on either. the block has 4.8/5.3 cast into it and is supposed to have a paint mark next to what motor it is but I never seen that either. you have to pull the head and look at the pistons, flat top=4.8, dished=5.3. I also heard you can pull the pan and check clearance between the crank and windage tray. the 4.8 has almost 1/2" clearance while the 5.3 is real close.

no, i actually need the "serial number" as its called of the engine for the shipping company. i know how to tell if its a 4.8 or 5.3...
