How do stock Vortec self- aligning rockers compare to the old, stock high performance long- slot rockers? Do the self aligners have the long slot feature too? How much lift is the stock Vortec rocker capable of handling? I know I'd be better off getting some aftermarket rockers but I'm just curious.
Also, I was recently able to pick up a decent but high mileage set of #12558059 305 Vortec heads for $100. This might just sway me to go ahead and warm up my Camaro's stock 305 (I know, I know!) or just keep them around to bump up a low compression 350 build.
Anyway, can I trust the old valves to just get some aftermarket springs, and have a high perfromance valve job done for a mild 300-350 hp build with around .450 lift? Or should I replace the high- mileage valves? If so, does anybody have a brand recommendation for stock type 1.94/1.50 stainless valves?
Has anyone used the beehive springs with any success on a mild build without trimming down the valve guides? Beehive spring brand recommendations? I MIGHT end up wanting to go a little over .450 lift someday, especially on the exhaust side, or even try 1.6 rockers.

aftermarket rockers are they way to go,i have seen too many stamped steel rockers have the pushrod push through them..
305 vortec heads are terrible flowing heads unfortunately, the 350 vortecs are nice....you should save your money and do more researching
