Air conditioning problems

I was wondering if someone might know what is wrong with my car's ac system. I have a 91 z28 5.0. The problem is that the ac compressor turns on and off every 15-20 seconds even with the ac controls turned off. I unplugged one of the switches that run to the compressor to stop the problem, but I was wondering how to fix it, as I am not too familiar with ac repair. Any help would be much appreciated.

Your system is low on freeon, buy a gauge and check and fill acordingly!

thanks for the idea, I thought It would have plenty since the air it blows is cold, but I'll get it checked anyway.

that would be the answer if he was trying to run the a/c, but since it is doing it even with the a/c controls off, he has an electrical issue. more than likely its a short somewhere behind the climate control. try searching or post over in the electrical section, vader is really helpful with the electrical stuff.
