ok my car just started to backfire two days ago it is an 84 camaro Z28 with a rochester Q-jet carb stock exhaust except the muffler and it just started to backfire it seems like i have loss a lot of power like 25-30% of it code says it was running rich....check engine light only came on a couple of times before backfiring started and only came on at a long period stop at idle....i know the egr valve is shot and i beleive the diverter valve (think thats what its called) is built up with carbon and might be shot as well.... so im wondering if there might be someone to help with my issue well issues have plenty haha

 

Check and make sure your spark plug wires are all on good.
