Fuel pump or ignition?

My '86 Trans Am, with a Quadra-Jet is hesitating or missing when I accelerate. I changed out the fuel filter thinking maybe it was gunked up, but didn't fix the problem. It seems to me that I can accelerate out of it, but it still hucks and bucks. No check engine light on. I think it's ignition, because if a fuel pump was going bad, it'd peter out instead of letting me rev it up right? My dad seems to think that it's a fuel problem. Any ideas?
