Timing retarded w/ lt1 cam swap?

Ok I finaly got my 91 RS running with the lt1 cam installed. Problem is when I throw the timing light on it its showing like 10 deg. retarded? I put an aftermarket indicator on hopefully thats all I screwed up.

Any idea what else I may have done?

When you changed the cam, you moved the distributor. Adjust it to 0*, TDC with the timing wire disconnected and tighten the clamp.

Actualy I removed the dissy and reinstalled it. I also did valve seals and what not so the motor was rotated.

So I had to set the dissy like an all new build.

Now if I try to set the timing to 0 it wont run. At 10 deg retarded it runs though. Was something possibly installed incorrectly?

Did you change the balancer by any chance at the same time you did the cam swap? I'm thinking your timing mark is now reading wrong for some reason (wrong balancer to match your timing tab is where I'm going with the above question). No engine will want to run at a true 10* retarded.

Stock balancer for a TBI engine uses a 12:00 position timing tab (seen looking straight down behind the water pump). Is your new/aftermarket timing tab in that position?
