89 tpi on 70 sbc heads

I hope I am putting this in the right forum. I have a 350 out of a 70 Chevy that I am going to be freshening up. What I wanted to know is if a TPI intake out of a 1989 350 would fit on the heads of that 1970 block. I have heard that there is a difference in one of the bolt holes angle. If so is there a way to correct this problem. Sorry if this has been asked before but just can't seem to find anything on it.

Re: 89 tpi on 70 sbc heads

Ok so I found some info off of anothe post.

So the pre-1986 heads will accept a 1985-1986 TPI
and 1987-up heads will accept 1987-1992 TPI

Sounds like it wont work. I guess I could find some after market heads to make up the differents bettween years. What do you guys think.

It will work just fine, just drill the holes on the angle needed. it's been done many times befor and no issues, it's the 2 centre bolts on both sides of the manifold.

You can get an aftermarket TPI intake from Edelbrock, it has both bolt patterns for the heads built in. It'll flow better and make more power than the stock intake will, too.

Old school heads. Why? A budget build.

Good luck

Re: 89 tpi on 70 sbc heads

I am redoing a 1968 C10. The block and heads are all good. The block is a four bolt and the heads come stock with good flow numbers. I am using the intake off of my 89 Firebird. It has the stealth ram on it right now. I want to use the TPI intake to get some more low end torque. I am not to worried over 5000.
