dumb mechanic?

Alright, so, my car wouldnt start along with a few other things that was wrong with it. So I had to get it to a shop. When I tried to start it, all I got was a loud and fast clicking sound. Something like clickclickclicklcickclick, you get the picture. I was thinking starter. Anyways, so I get it taken there by truck bed and what not and the guy says hes going to read the trouble codes. Puts a paperclip in... wonder if thats a professional way for mechanics... (1992 camaro rs 3.1 btw). Puts the paperclip in and what not and tries reading the codes. Well, shortly after, the car is just gone. You know how when you turn the lights on, or turn the key to a certain point theres a beeping? Nothing now. Trunk wont open. Lights wont go on. Nothing. So Im thinking he fried the computer. I had to get it taken back. I got another computer, pulled the old one out and exchanged it. Nothing still. Im lost. Pissed. And I need a car. Anyone wanna take a stab?

Re: dumb mechanic?

Ok. So the guy using a paperclip was trying to ground the a&b terminals in the ADL Port. there is achance that he did not cross the right port and shorted out a fuse. First check all fuses.

Re: dumb mechanic?

Sounds like your battery is completely dead, that would also explain your clicking. I doubt it's your starter.
Oh and for his paper clip method, that's the easiest way to do it, and no he didn't fry anything.

This is the kinda stuff that makes any mechanic mad. You dont know what he did, so its all his fault. Maybe he is a crappy mechanic(he is, because the first thing he should have checked was the battery) but your car didnt run when it went there.

my thoughts exactly, I have never understood why people pay you to fix their car then second guess everything you do? If you know how to fix it then do it otherwise let the profesionals do what they do. how the OP feels qualified to judge the mechanics abilities is beyond me when he cant tell a dead battery/bad connection from a bad starter....
